WELCOME TO THE NEW BUCCANEER BREEZE

New Year, New Breeze

Greetings Buccaneers!

One of my resolutions this year was to swap the Buccaneer Breeze over to its new home on Substack. Which is now done, so I can take the rest of the year off of resolutions to celebrate! Just kidding, but I am glad to have made the switch, this platform offers new features such as the function that every issue of the Breeze is not only mailed out, but can also be found at this address in a blog format… If you miss an issue, or simply want to look up old ones, it is as simple as visiting thebuccaneerbreeze.substack.com !

Another feature that this platform provides is a comment section on each post, so if you have anything to add, want to correct anything I might get wrong, or want to discuss races etc. you can do so right here and I don’t have to fight the spam filter to make sure that I catch all emails sent to me. The site also allows anyone to subscribe to the Breeze simply by clicking the “subscribe” button on the page. (Note: this is brand new so the website link to sign up is not updated yet.)

I am still learning how to format for this platform, so in this issue the familiar sections are not implemented yet, please bear with me as I adapt. With that all said, on to the upcoming events for 2024 at Buccaneer!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

This THIS THURSDAY BEFORE OUR MEETING at 7:00 PM the 2024 Winter Sailing Seminar will kick off with a presentation by Michael Mark, multiple time National and International Champion and BUCYC Sailor of the Year. Everyone is welcome to join, especially new sailors, questions are encouraged.

The following is the proposed GYA schedule for BUCYC which will be voted on at the Winter Meeting, courtesy of Jim Hunter:

Billy Goat:   February 11

Finn Gulf Coast Championship:   April 13-14

Dauphin Island Race:   April 27

Spring Regatta:   May 18-19

Middle Bay Light Race:   September 14

CRABTRAP:

A huge thank you to Danny Robertson for another great fireworks show on New Year’s Eve, and to all those who worked on the new beach bonfire pit. It was an excellent celebration to ring in 2024.
